I put this event on for Jacob to come to the Retreat at Sky Ridge and preform.
This project is a collection of music and story by Jacob George and Adam Cox composed over the winter to help share stories and shine light on the often dark and misunderstood nature of war. The album focuses on Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and how we are all touched by it. The album title is Soldiers Heart, a reference to the American Civil War term for PTSD. There will be a last live performance I do in Fayetteville, Arkansas before rolling out this spring with A Ride Till The End (ARTTE).
Jacob George is a three tour veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) turned peace activist. He served as a paratrooper in the United States Army Special Operation Command (USASOC) between 2001-2004, and was honorably discharged as sergeant. Jacob is a cofounder of A Ride Till The End (ARTTE), which is a veteran lead perpetual bicycle protest of the Afghan War and is based out of Fayetteville, Arkansas. The ride began on May 1, 2010 and has covered over 8,000 miles in the U.S. Jacob returned to Afghanistan in the summer of 2011 with Voices For Creative Nonviolence to work with and hear stories of Afghans struggling for peace and has been sharing those stories with music and poetry while riding his bicycle around the country. The musical platform is folk/bluegrass in combination with storytelling and explores the overall impact of war on Afghans, U.S. soldiers, U.S. citizens and our “enemies”.
This is a sign for a new shop in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Angels of Eureka, see the bottom of the sign is a scape of Eureka Springs with the Christ of the Ozarks and the Crescent Hotel. I used the old sign that was there and painted it with the new information.
I just finished this one and installed it. It is a 4×8 billboard and has 2 sides. I laced the 2 sides together with rope to hold it in place. The Red and White letter are reflective so that as cars go by they will see the sign at night, since there are no lights on the sign.
I have been working, been busy, that’s why I haven’t posted in while.
Just finished a new website for the Colonial Inn in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. here is the website http://colonialinneureka.com They didn’t have their own website yet and they have been in business for 20 years. So we got all the information about all their wonderful rooms up on the website. It is a beautiful place. They have this mansion with over sized rooms that are very nice. Then they also have a inn in the back with standard size rooms and a condo for rent also. Lovely people with a very clean and neat place.
They are also looking for someone to rent out one of the rooms to do healing like an acupuncturist. So if you are interested in that please go to their website and contact them.
I am working on several other websites at the same time and will post them when I have the time.
Well I got up at 6am, still dark out, saw the white stuff on the ground, first for the year! It is February 26th and we finally get some snow! Not much maybe a half inch but it is sticking to the ground. I go feed the cats and then when I let them out I hear rain! At my backdoor it says 34* and on my computer it says 32* with a flashing advisory. A winter weather advisory. For all my relative up North, I know this is nothing but with these roads, you still stay home because you don’t know when they will freeze. When you are descending a on a hill and there is a sharp curve at the bottom, no guard rails on one side with only the trees going down the hill to stop you and on the other side is the side of the mountain, you don’t want to find that one patch of ice you didn’t think was ice.
I have a meeting this afternoon in town and we’ll see if it is all clear or I may have to reschedule the meeting. That’s life living in the Ozarks in the winter.
Well it is now 7 am and it is getting lighter out there, the cats want in and now it is snowing big flakes!
Well is was snowing yesterday, then raining, then sleeting. Last night I heard the thunder and the ice all over everything in the morning. It was then sleeting again the raining, now it has stopped at least for now. I am so glad that when I awoke I could see what time it was, that meant we still had electricity!!!!! Lost internet several times in the morning but we still had electricity! Here in the mountains when it snows or you get everything covered in ice, you stay home! The roads are just too dangerous to drive. Luckily (or unluckily) I work where I live so I will be at work today. I will get things uploaded to the internet when I can. I have electricity and am happy about that! If it does go out we do have propane and 2 wood stoves to keep warm and 4 cats to sit on out laps. I also have plenty of home canned veggies from the garden that I can warm up to eat, we will be just fine.
I’ve been working on this all weekend updating and getting all the information posted online.
The Eureka Earth Festival will be free to attend! Yea!!! Except for workshops, you will need to pay for any of them you would like to take. There is plan for a ceremony to open the festival on Monday, April 22 at 10 am at the Retreat at Sky Ridge with Peace Mother Geeta Sacred Song who is a Mayan Peace Shaman. Then to end the week on Saturday April 27th with a Potluck and Drumming around the fire.
Well I went to the first meeting on the old Eureka Springs high school and what to do with it. It lasted almost 2 hours and I think it was very productive. There was a consensus that it needs to encompass the diversity of the town. The gym should be used as a community center. Other ideas for the use of the main building could include many of these: Offices for the city and CAPC, maybe ESSA would be interested in part. Business incubator, trade school, and the the cafeteria could be used as a community meeting place. Rooms could be rented out for these things and even a place for the Farmer’s Market. An area could be even be used by the fire department. One of the suggestions was even a spot for a community swimming pool. The main thought was that it was for use by the community, that this would not be focused on tourism but the community instead. Everyone was in agreement with that statement. That has got to be a first for Eureka Springs! There are many groups that want to be a part of this and I do think there is the space for everyone, now can we work together from here, I sure hope so!
